Created from Fujiwhara effect When two cyclones drift within roughly 1,400 kilometres of each other, neither simply wins. They begin an orbital dance around their combined centre of mass — a phenomenon first described by Sakuhei Fujiwhara in 1921. The outcome depends on size and proximity: the larger may absorb the smaller, both may merge into one, or they may fling each other apart and continue alone.
